What is the price of chinchillas, and how long do they live?
I will be getting a chinchilla very soon, so if you have one or know a lot about them, please put as much information as you can about Chinchillas.
"Scientific Name: Chinchilla lanigera
Life Span: Typically about 15 years, but 18-22 years is not uncommon.
Size: Body length about 10-14 inches; tail is another 5-6 inches or so.
Temperament: With gentle handling from a young age most chinchillas will become quite tame and bond closely with their owners, although sometimes they do not like to be held or cuddled. They are very active and playful. They can be kept singly, and usually will do fine as same sex pairs especially if they are littermates or introduced at a young age.
Habits: chinchillas are nocturnal so will be most active in the evening and night. They should be kept in a fairly quiet area during the day. They prefer a consistent routine for handling a feeding times and may be stressed out by changes to their routine. They are very active and playful and need a roomy cage for exercise as well as daily playtime.
Feeding: Chinchillas require a lot of roughage, and the diet should mainly be made up of a good quality grass hay along with pellets made for chinchillas. Treats should be given in moderation (one teaspoon per day in total) and can include fruits (eg fresh or dried apples, grapes, raisins), vegetables (carrots, celery), sunflower seeds, and rolled oats. The digestive system of chinchillas is fairly sensitive so any diet changes should be gradual.
Cages: Cages need to be large, and multi-level cages with platforms, ramps, and perches are ideal. For more information, see Cages for Chinchillas.
Dust Bath and Toys: Along with regular access to a dust bath, chinchillas need a variety of toys to keep them busy and active, especially items for chewing to keep the incisor teeth in good condition. See Toys for Chinchillas for more on dust baths and toys.
Handling and Taming: You must be gentle and consistent to gain the trust of a chinchilla. Find out the steps to taming chinchillas in How to Tame a Chinchilla."

Chinchillas cost $100 to $200, usually about $130. They live several years, and more than 5 years I know.

I think the biggest thing to remember with them is that they are night animals so don’t like to be disturbed during the day. They also get stressed very easily so don’t like being around children.
They love to jump around so the cages that they sell at pet stores aren’t really appropriate. If you buy one get something tall. I had a 5ft high cage with purches at different heights that allowed them to jump around. They also love a nesting box that they can snuggle into for sleep time.
The cutest thing is watching them use a sand bath, it never gets old watching them flip around. They are very clean animals and ddon’t smell but do tend to throw their droppings (small hard mouse like droppings) out of the cage.
Look to keep them somewhere quite and not too hot during the day as extreme temperatures and noise can cause them stress which may end in a dead pet. Also don’t have them in your bedroom otherwise you’ll get no sleep at night.
They are very affectionate animals and love to be out and running around a room although make sure that all small gaps are covered up and they have no access to wires (many an animal has been shocked from biting through tv wires). They are a ton of fun so definitely a great pet if you have the energy to play with them at night and give them the perfect enviroment.
