Is it illegal to have a pet chinchilla in California?

I heard that it’s illegal to own a chinchilla in California. Is this true? My sister really wants one but if it’s illegal…well then I guess that can’t happen.
NO! they aren’t illegal (otherwise I’d be in jail now lol)
Get one! They are easy to maintain, and some just love being cuddled!

Domestic chinchillas are ok to have. If you need to know about your city’s local ordinances, phone a nearby vet and ask about chinchillas for your city, they’ll be up on any local laws prohibiting certain species.
