Chinchilla As Pet

I have used the glue traps, poison packets and the good old fashioned snap traps, but I still seem to have mice. I can hear them in my vents and have obvious signs of them around my house, ie: mouse droppings and urine stains. Besides my chinchilla, I have 3 dobermans, lovebirds and a blue fronted amazon parrot. I obviously LOVE animals but I HATE mice!!!

I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t use any of those ultrasonic rodent repellents if you have a chinchilla. I believe they would classify that as a "rodent pet" (no matter how cute you think it is!). Additionally I don’t believe there to be any scientific proof that these ultrasonic rodent repellents will work - your mileage may vary and at the risk of hurting one of your beloved pets, I’d stay away from it.

I would recommend sticking with mouse traps to get rid of mice. It’s the tried and true method even though up to this point you’ve been met with limited success. Make sure you are placing the traps along the mouse high traffic areas.

Also take some preventative measures to keep them out. Locate the source of their entry - they can enter a hole in your house the size of your pinkie finger. Seal those entry points. Make sure all food is sealed tightly in plastic containers. A cardboard box is not tightly sealed as a mouse will chew right through it. Clean your home regularly and take out the trash daily. If you remove all the food sources, your mice will have no choice but to move on.
