What kind of wood would be best to build a chinchilla cage for my chinchilla?
On October - 14 - 2009
Well all the cages are a lot of money, and i was thinking about building one. So if you know please answer Thanks.
Absolutely! I used to buy all my cages, but now I’m making most of them. You can see some of my creations and creative process at the first link below.
The cheapest way to do it is with a pine 1 x 2’s (pine) and galvanized 1 inch by 1/2 inch wire. You can’t use oak (it’s poisonous). The second link below lists some of the safe woods for chinchillas, but pine is far and away the least expensive.
Good luck!

Pine is fine, use animal cage wire to surround it. You can find this in the lumber department of Home Depot or Lowes.
