Can anyone tell me more about chinchillas?

Posted by admin On October - 14 - 2009

I have a chinchilla and I know a lot about her but I’d like to know more!! Advice, good books to read about chinchillas that kind of stuff.

I have a chinchilla. He is a great pet. The kids enjoy his gentle nature and active night life. When you first settle with your Chin, let them run and exercise in yor bathroom. Easy clean up, and safe.I love watching him bounce off our walls as he hops around our family room. We block him in for safety reasons. He enjoys taking a dust bath twice a week. He can not get to the cage door fast enough when he sees his container coming for a bath. I make sure he gets a chew wood stick daily to keep his teeth clean and trim. He enjoys alfalfa cubes that are enter twined with berry flavor more than plain. A fresh batch of timothy hay is given to him with a dixie cup of food to help the digestion tract. They have to have Timothy hay. I keep him cool on warm days with his own fan. He stretches out in front of it for the full benefit. Every other night, our chinchilla runs around the house in his giant play ball. The kittens and the dog will follow most of the time. I swear he aims that thing at them(lol).
Sam gets along with our dog and (believe it or not) our foster kittens. They like to watch Sam like he is tv for them.
I recommend a chinchilla for anyone who can play with them daily with gentle hands. I do suggest getting a quiet wheel since they are active most of the night. Clean up the cage daily of waste, fresh water, and dried fruit treats once a week. Be careful since too much can give the little guys the runs(ouch).
I hope this all helps. Sam is a great addition to our home.
