   Chinchillas can live up to 20 years in captivity. Most live around 15 -16 years. A rat or mouse lives about 2 1/2 - 3 years on average. Chins have very thick fur and cannot get bugs like other rodents. The drawback is they have special needs. Like needing lots of room, bathdust….and a few other things. My sister rescues chins…Hope that helps!

   I believe chinchillas, they can live up to 15-20 years if are heathly and well cared.

   Edit/response to other answers: Guinea pigs live a lot less, about 4-5 years on average.

   they are also funn to and a lot of site to help you if you need help you should try to get them from a rescue place before a breedor of pet store also try guinea pig home.com !! hoped that helped!

   Guiena pig or rat..my son had a rat and he was expected to live 15 yrs. We had to move and he gave him to a friend and he’s still alive and well..that was two yrs ago so 13 more to go.

   Chinillas(7-8 years), but they are pretty high matenence and expensive and guinea pigs(4-5 years) are the next long living rodent so I would go with them.

   i would say chinchilla but im not because they get heartattacks. so i say rats. or bunnies
